About Paari

We are a team of artists, architects, designers and eco lovers practicing natural building construction, researching on materials, designing furniture and random day-to-day products. We also enjoy designing weddings for clients who insist on an ecologically sensitive approach.
Our urban projects are not-for-profit oriented, where we aim to start discussions on those topics that have been normalized, and forgotten to question. Our first and foremost focus is on creating awareness about these issues. With bottom-up approaches and participatory planning exercises, wee hope to develop strategies that can make cities more livable.
Our founder Shruthi Athreya grew fond of natural building construction techniques and sustainable living through her experience in Auroville (Pondicherry, India) and Ibuku (Bali, Indonesia). She delved into the art of building with adobe mud-craft and bamboo while learning about sustainable waste management systems, permaculture farming, energy supply and so on. Her thirst to learn about the nuances of sustainable design at an urban scale to effect change at a macro level were quenched through the IUSD master program in Stuttgart, Germany. During her study, she worked on her master thesis topic ‘Gender inequality in public spaces, taking the case of Chennai, India’ which later turned into the MCMS project. After her education, she decided to start her own architecture and urban research firm, focusing on sustainability, which lead to the incorporation of Paari Design Studio. Soon, a team of like-minded individuals came together, with the sole motive to effect change.
